The U.S. Department of State (DOS), in close collaboration with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), announced last Tuesday (August 27, 2024) that it has already issued the full allotment of EB-1 visas for the current fiscal year.
“Maximizing these visas facilitates legitimate travel for individuals with extraordinary ability that has garnered national or international acclaim, outstanding professors and researchers, and multinational executives and managers. These individuals bring contributions across many industries that greatly benefit the U.S. economy,” said the DOS in a statement.
HOW TO GET A GREEN CARD TO LIVE IN THE U.S.?
Since all available EB-1 visas have already been utilized, U.S. embassies and consulates around the world can no longer issue visas in this category until the beginning of the next fiscal year on October 1st.
Each year, the U.S. can issue 140,000 employment-based (EB) visas to foreign nationals, plus the number of unused family-based visas from the previous fiscal year. As a result, for 2024, the U.S. government had a total of 161,000 employment-based green cards available.
The Immigration and Nationality Act limits the number of EB-1 visas issued annually to 28.6% of the worldwide EB limit.
